Interpol frontman Paul Banks just released his covers of Iggy Pop and The Stooges from the Sister Midnight soundtrack, a film directed by Karan Kandhari. The soundtrack features tracks from the likes of Howling Wolf, Buddy Holly, The Band, and more, and marks Banks’ debut as a soundtrack composer. The collection features Banks’ renditions of “Gimme Danger” from The Stooges‘ 1973 record, Raw Power, and “Sister Midnight” from Iggy’s 1977 debut solo album, The Idiot. In an Instagram Story, Banks said it was “truly my great pleasure” to play the covers, adding, “Thanks to all the sick musicians who helped me and played on all these tracks! So proud to share these with y’all.” Interpol are currently working on a new “rock” album, with Banks telling NME: “I’m pretty pumped about the stuff that we have worked on so far. With this record, we’re getting back to writing together in a room and my favourite tracks so far are quite high energy.” (NME)
