Four trainees introduced by YG Entertainment in 2016 would go on to reshape the global pop conversation. Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa debuted as BLACKPINK that August, and their first singles quickly drew international attention.

In the months that followed, the group began stacking milestones. Industry charts later showed them becoming the first K-pop girl group to enter Canada’s Hot 100, signaling early traction outside Asia. As their releases continued, so did the records. EPs and full-length albums climbed the Billboard 200, with each comeback expanding their audience in North America and Europe.

Festival stages followed. In 2019, BLACKPINK performed at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, marking a first for a K-pop girl group. Years later, they returned as headliners, a rare position for any Asian act.

Collaborations with major Western artists and a steady run of charting singles reinforced their reach. By the early 2020s, BLACKPINK had moved from breakout act to global mainstay, setting benchmarks that reshaped expectations for K-pop girl groups worldwide
