Dave Marsh, the veteran rock critic, author and longtime Bruce Springsteen biographer, died August 14 at his home in Connecticut. He was 76. His longtime E Street Radio co-host Jim Rotolo confirmed the news the following day. A cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

Marsh built a career that spanned decades of music journalism, beginning as an early editor at Creem and later writing for several major publications. He also authored more than 25 books, including Born to Run: The Bruce Springsteen Story, first published in 1979 and later expanded through updated editions.

Marsh was an early supporter of Springsteen and remained closely connected to his music throughout his career. He also helped create E Street Radio and hosted programming on the SiriusXM channel for years.

Following Marsh’s death, Springsteen shared a personal tribute describing him as a lifelong rock and roll devotee, a man of strong convictions and a friend whose support had meant deeply to him.

Marsh leaves behind a significant body of work covering rock music, its artists and its cultural history.
